Helsinki-based studio Avanto Architects has designed the Villa Q project.

The 3,230 square foot house is located in Veräjämäki, a central neighborhood of Helsinki, Finland and was completed in 2008.

Villa Q in Finland by Avanto Architects:

“The modern city villa is located in North Helsinki, in an area characterized by old wooden villas. The sculptural form is motivated by the dramatic setting: the summit of a rocky hill. The diamond-shape of the main building creates sunny courtyards both to the south and the west. The facades are clad in broad boards painted grey.

The concrete fireplace in the centre of the building functions as a traditional heart, radiating and sustaining warmth. The ground floor with long views to the valley contains living spaces, the bedrooms and the bathrooms are located on the first floor. The atelier that forms the courtyard wing of the building can be used as a subsidiary apartment.

Villa Q was nominated for Finnish Concrete Prize in 2008.”
