Timms Bach, Beach Shelter by Herbst Architects

By • Nov 18, 2012 •  Selected Work

Aukland-based husband-and-wife Nicola and Lance Herbst of Herbst Architects have designed a beach home located just a short walk away from Kaitoke Beach on the Great Barrier Island, the fourth-largest island of New Zealand’s main chain of islands.

This bach, a New Zealand term for a back-to-basics beach house, like every house on the island, is off the grid.

There is a wood burner in the house for heating, water is solar heated and the oven and fridge are gas-powered.
