“Project Description
A penthouse in mid-town Toronto, this home epitomizes restrained and exquisite contemporary design while being warm, comfortable and welcoming. Located on a half floor, the home has west, north and east exposures.
Designed for an empty nester couple who frequently entertains for family, business and charitable functions, this home has three distinct zones – the interior courtyard, the entertainment or public zone, and the private zone.

Interior Courtyard
This north-facing space acts as a decompression chamber in which the visitor immediately connects with northern daylight, flowing water on the walls flanking the bridge and the green space outside.
Because the home was designed pre-construction, the architecture of the building was modified to incorporate clerestory windows within the space.

Entertainment Zone
Facing north and west, the space incorporates a connection to the exterior terraces, site lines and functionality.
The gourmet kitchen is clad in white Corian and has back painted white glass accents, has all of the latest appliances. The island has a dropped area for breakfast bar. Pantry and laundry are tucked off to the side and separated by a sliding door.
The dining room has an eye-level linear gas fireplace which anchors the space and is a focal point to the room.
The living room lounge accommodates large groups in an intimate ‘pit’ arrangement of the sofas and side chairs.
Outdoor living space is an extension of the interior complete with fire pit, water feature and dining.

Private Zone
Comprised of an office, master bedroom, ensuite bathroom and his/hers dressing rooms this north and east facing space allows one to walk out to a private garden which extends your living space to the outdoors.
The positioning of the bed allows the home owners to wake up to city views.
The ensuite bathroom was designed with all the luxuries of a spa with lounge, wet and grooming areas and direct access to the dressing rooms. The dressing rooms have been carefully tailored to the client’s needs, i.e. shoe storage, folding tables, steam areas, 3 way mirrors and pull down hanging.

Aesthetics/Finishes
The limited material palette includes:
Italian limestone floors/walls in a combination of raked and honed finish, each piece fabricated in a custom size.
Hand-finished blackened cold rolled steel door frames with wire brushed hemlock wood inserts.
Cold rolled steel fireplace with hammered accents.
Dark chocolate wood floors and millwork.
White Statuario marble, white Corian, white back-painted glass.
Dark chocolate kid leather upholstered headboard with cold rolled steel frame.”
