Residencia LK by Estúdio MRGB:

“When the team at Estúdio MRGB was invited to develop the LK Residential project, there were no housing constructions in the small residential condominium where the client wished to build. The challenge was to think of a relationship between the new house and its surroundings, on knowing that the scenery would change as the lots were occupied. It was necessary to create openings towards the uncertain outdoor environment without compromising the residents’ privacy and bring natural light and ventilation into the indoor environments.

For this, the product took on a linear configuration that opened up a generous green area in the rear portion of the lot, to which the spacious openings of the main rooms look out upon. The living room and kitchen are integrated to the backyard with sliding glass panels, while the bedrooms receive balconies. What remained, with the most important openings worked out, was to resolve the main facade, open enough to allow for the passage of wind and light and closed enough to safeguard the residents in their daily activities.

From the tension generated between these polarities sprang forth a remarkable visual element: the fence wall formed by different widths of reinforced concrete strips. While defining ideal permeability for the surface, the strips create a counterpoint to the preponderant horizontalness in the composition of the facade.

The framework of the house is made of reinforced concrete, with the structural axles responding to the variable intervals that configure the dimensions desired for each environment. The beams are inverted and form drainage pools above the slab. A perimetral beam ties in the entire conjunction and can be seen on the facades.”
