Rye 4 by Pleysier Perkins:

“Appearing like a marooned container atop a sand dune from the street, the full extent of this house is only revealed as one descends down to the main deck and entry.

The fundamental form of the building is simple – a two storey rectilinear box nestled into the dune. But the composition of natural materials including rough sawn timber, galvanized steel, concrete and glass adds texture and delicacy to an otherwise robust structure. The design plays on contrasts – light and shade, solid and transparent, horizontal and vertical, light and heavy – in order to achieve a state of robust delicacy that is in tune with its coastal setting.

The main living spaces flow out to the main deck and garden on the lower level. The upper level includes three bedrooms and a studio space that relates to the upper deck, featuring sunsets over the national park!”
