Gwel-An-Treth by Laurence Associates:

“Located on a steep site overlooking the picturesque village of Sennen Cove near Land’s End, our client sought to replace an out-dated bungalow with a design that made best use of both the site and the views of Whitesands Bay and Cape Cornwall.

The site lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there had been some opposition to contemporary designs in the wider area. Planning permission had previously been obtained for a replacement, but the client wished to explore an alternative approach to the design process. The design was fundamentally overhauled and redesigned in close liaison with the client and structural engineer.

The revised design positioned the building further down the site, with reverse living and the main living accommodation at the principle entrance level. Views of the sea can be seen through the house from the entrance doorway, with stunning views from both the ground and first floor balconies. A large patent glazed roof in the open plan living area compliments the fully glazed wall on to the balcony with views over the Sennen. The scheme was accompanied by illustrations and photo-montages showing the design in context, to prove to the local planning authority that it would improve the appearance of the site and have no impact on the wider character of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The property is currently being let as a luxury holiday home via Perfect Stays.”
