Modern Extension to a Home in Bucharest, Romania

This project concerns the expansion of an already-existing home. It consisted of a generous plot of land atop which a 100 square meter house was located. The home had a basement, a ground floor, and first floor, and an attic.

It is located in Otopeni city, which is adjacent to Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The design was undertaken by LAMA Arhitectura, more specifically by Dan Enache and Calin Radu, in 2015. The home covers a total area of 180 square meters.

The extension is reinterpreted in a contemporary shape, like a concrete origami attached to the old house. The architects sought unity, seeking a visual and spatial dialogue between the two volumes, thus making the home feel both modern as well as functional.

A terrace was placed under the concrete extension and next to the pool area, where the residents are able to spend time alongside friends and family.

A TV area and chimney sit inside, inviting residents and guests alike to spend some leisure time in them. Its floors and walls, clad in wood and concrete, create a cozy and intimate space.

At night, the terrace gives us the perfect relaxation spot under the moonlight in a calm setting, with the temptation of a dip in the pool nearby.
