First Shipping Container House in Mojave Desert by Ecotech Design

Ecotech Design has completed the first Shipping Container Home in the Mojave Desert in collaboration with its design/build subsidiary Ecotech Build.

Located near Joshua Tree in California, the hybrid house, known as The Tim Palen Studio at Shadow Mountain is the prototype of a second generation pre-fab design for a residence and workplace developed by Ecotech Build.

This majestic six bedroom, six bathroom beach front home is located on Mermaid Beach in Queensland, Australia.

The house was voted House of the Year 2009 in the regional category of the Australia Institute of Architects Awards.

Billionaire poker machine king Bruce Mathieson made the most expensive property purchase in Queensland the same year and bought the property for $18 million, far below what former owner paid for the lot and the house!

House Near Poznan Project by NoeStudio Architects

Polish firm Neostudio Architects has completed this refurbishment project near Poznan in Poland.

The existing two story building was converted into a 2,410 square foot house by adding a single story extension to the property.

The addition accommodates the new kitchen and the living and dining rooms, while the existing building now houses the garage and the sleeping area on the first floor.


Margarido House, a Contemporary Energy Efficient home by Onion Flats

This 4,650 square foot single family home in the hills of Oakland, California, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and all of San Francisco, was designed by Onion Flats to merge comfortably into it’s difficult and steeply sloped site while providing a tranquil setting for a couple and their two children.

This house has an array of sustainable features: it incorporates a planted green roof garden, photovoltaic panel system which generate all necessary electricity for the home, and solar thermal panels which provides pre-heated hot water to the house.

The  Margarido House was one of the first LEED-H Gold single-family homes in the State of California.


Inside Out House by Takeshi Hosaka Architects

The Inside Out House is a 637 square-foot two story home located in Katsushika, one of the special wards of Tokyo, Japan.

Designed by Takeshi Hosaka Architects for a couple and two cats, “the project started based on the idea that humans and cats live in a same house, rather than cats living in a house designed for humans — and finally this idea brought out a concept: “a house inside which you feel being outside.”


Spencertown Residence by Thomas Phifer and Partners

This 2,900-square-foot residence designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners is situated on a rolling meadow and commands dramatic views of an agricultural valley and the distant Catskills in rural upstate New York.

The home’s primary organizational element is a six-foot-high concrete wall that retains the earth on the uphill side and defines a large entry court in the middle.

The entry and living spaces are open to views and arranged in a linear fashion along the downhill side of the wall under a gently vaulted, winglike roof.

The Gymnasium Apartment in New York City by Charles Gwathmey

This masterwork residence was built from soaring raw space within the former gymnasium of the original 1905 Beaux Arts Police Headquarters Building in Soho, New York City.

It represents the vision and genius of the world renowned and acclaimed architect, the famed Charles Gwathmey.

This is the only apartment Gwathmey ever designed from the ground up, and required over four years to complete.
