Melbourne-based studio LSA Architects has sent us photos of the Cape Schanck Residence project.

As its name suggests, this two-story contemporary home is located in Cape Schanck, locality in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Cape Schanck Residence by LSA Architects:

“This residence was designed for a client who had worked hard all his life and now had the time to fulfill some of his long held passions principally golf and a relaxed lifestyle with family and friends. The residence is therefore a low maintenance, modern gentleman’s residence with sweeping views of the three surrounding golf courses all accessible by golf buggy.

The property is sited on the side of a sand dune which presented structural, access and visibility problems. The property had to sit on the site without visibly breaking the ridge line but be elevated enough to capture the spectacular views. The external colour palette had to be muted to allow the building to sit quietly amid the native vegetation.

You then need to conceal vehicles from the principal façade as well as provide access to the rear car parking area up a 40 degree inclined sand dune! The siting of the house was therefore impacted upon by the fully cantilevered driveway.

On arriving at the top of the hill, access is granted to the house and on entering you are guided to the front living areas by glimpses of the magnificent view. The top level is fully self contained with all amenities provided. The lower level still has views over the tee tree and provides accommodation for guests.”
