Located in the Sassi area of Matera, a town in southern Italy, Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita is the only hotel in the world located within the natural extravagance of prehistoric caves!
This world-class hotel represents the most spectacular and well-preserved example of a town where thousands of caves have been used for centuries as dwellings, churches and even palaces.
The result is a unique location unlike any other hotel establishment in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage since 1993 where luxurious comfort converges with prehistoric design.
You can book one of the 18 rooms all year round from €100 to €700 per night, depending on the season and the type of the room.

Dear author of this editorial, unfortunately you are misinformed. This hotel is not “the only 4 stars cave hotel in Matera”.
The old neighbourhood of Sassi contains literally hundreds of authentic caves. About a decade ago the local government decided to move out all the families living in the Sassi for whom they built apartment buildings in other areas of the city. The government retains ownership of every cave but they do lease it only to hotels, restaurants and art galleries.
There are several 4 stars hotels and two 5 stars, all built in authentic caves. Most of them are strikingly beutiful.
This is a unique interior for hotel. People, who love historical places and always ready to stay at new places will definitely going to appreciate this, it will remind us our ancient days.
