Lambeth by Architecture for London:
“This Victorian house in a conservation area originally had a dark and compact kitchen with unsatisfactory views of the garden. The brief was to create a light, spacious home for a growing family, with a side return extension that provided sufficient width for an island unit and dining table, allowing the kitchen to function as a social space.
The smaller, easy access door to the garden was designed with the family dog in mind, and the polished concrete floor is a hard wearing, wipe clean surface that accommodates pets well. The concrete floor extends into the garden, providing a terrace and uniting interior and exterior spaces. The extension is clad in stained cedar chevrons and the pattern folds over a number of planes, suggesting a manipulated and sculpted form whilst tying together the new additions at the rear of the house. The wrap-over glazing allows new uninterrupted views from the sky to the garden landscaping.”
