Have you always dreamed about spending a beautiful weekend in the wilderness, enjoying all the natural wonders that a gorgeously calming forest has to offer? Well, you’re certainly not alone in that desire. In fact, some people want to experience that type of relaxation so much that they actually choose to build their homes in wooded areas in order to create that kind of lifestyle for themselves full time.

One such person is the owner of this beautiful woodland home in Muhos, Finland. This stunning wooden structure, designed to suit its natural surroundings, was completed last year by the firm alt Architects and we have nothing but the utmost respect for their classically rustic taste levels, both outside and on the interior of the home.

Unlike some large homes, this particular building sprawl outwards, taking advantage of the isolated landscape its fortunate enough to have access to, rather than growing upward like some city homes would. A sloping structure covered in earth allows the grass surrounding the house to grow right up onto the roof of the house, as though nature is reclaiming the wooden building as part of its own, nestled right into the greenery like the wooden trees around it.

Beyond the angled roof, the rest of the home shares that same linear aesthetic, formed from a collection of clean, straight lines. In fact, the building is so linear that it appears almost cubic on all sides, giving the gleaming wood that it’s made of a complete centre stage. The simple construction of each all allows onlookers to really experience how beautiful the smoothed timbers composing the walls are. At the same time, the designers included large, modern windows to add a contemporary element to the home, saving it from looking outdated and instead giving it a balanced, rustic feel that we can hardly resist.
