Haus K is a private residence located in Krems an der Donau, a town in Austria. It was designed in 2017 by the Vienna based architectural firm Destilat. The building’s prime location grants it stunning views across the valley of the river Dabune and the abbey of Göttweig to the south, and the vineyards of Krems an der Donau to the north.
Destilat was responsible for revamping an old building that the clients had purchased as a shell structure. Its space is distributed across three levels, which underwent extensive renovation and restructuring. As a result, the ground floor now hosts a spacious wellness area including a sauna, whirlpool, lounge, and gym.
The second level hosts the entrance hall, which connects the northern main entrance with the southern entrance by the use of a bridge that goes across the moat. The main bedroom, with a walk in closet, a suite master bathroom, and an independent guest apartment with a garden terrace facing the south side of the property are also located on this floor.
The third level has a central staircase that divides the living area into a dining and a living room. The open kitchen is separated from the rest of the rooms by a wine storage refrigerator positioned at the staircase.
