This detached house has been built on a plot of 1500 square meters in the area of Trofa, Portugal, in 2015. For this, the architectural firm NoArq, led by one of its most talented architects, José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira, made the decision to demolish the old farmhouse in front of the road made of soft stone and clay with a compact earth soil. The old tree was preserved, as were the location of the old accesses to the land on the north and south sides.
The house has an area of 378 square meters of construction distributed on one level. The center of the volume (which was built in the shape of an “H”) houses the areas most frequently used by the inhabitants: the entrance, distribution, services and meals. The west wing is reserved for meetings, relaxation, and services, such as bathrooms and the laundry room. To the east, there are two bodies connected to the central volume (which extends to the north and to the south) to compose the rest of the “H.” These are used as a garage and lounge. The garage has the worst situation in the plot when it comes to sun exposure. The original shale walls were redesigned, enlarged and rebuilt due to the obligations of landscaping
