This marvelous home, where the most extensively used materials are stone and wood, is located in the eastern suburbs of Athens, the capital of Greece, in the mountainous region of Pikermi—named Drafi in Greek—where pine trees densely populate the land. It has a total area of 350 square meters and was constructed in 2017, undertaken by architectural firm Schema Architecture & Engineering, and supervised by architect Marianna Athanasiadou.
This design’s main focus was creating a house that utterly blends in with its natural surrounding environment, sustaining a majority of the already existing pine trees.
Two distinct blocks, one facing north and the other west, sit on different levels. They come together in the middle, with a wedge-shaped volume that forms the entrance, as well as a vertical circulation that leads to the main spaces of the home.
From the exterior, we can observe the glass walls that reflect that striking landscape, lush with trees and a tame wilderness, in the middle of which a pool was built.
Upon entering the home, the first thing that calls to our attention is the height of its stone walls, which are crowned by a marvelous wooden roof.
Its gorgeous living room has a chimney installed into one of the stone walls. Directly in front of the fireplace, we have a large glass wall, which allows the occupants to thoroughly enjoy the breathtaking views the house provides. More attractive still is the fact that the views accompany us to every room in the home, thus ensuring that the occupants have plenty of landscape to gaze upon.
