This vast private residence is located in the outskirts of Fish Creek, a small and sparsely populated township in Victoria, Australia. The home covers a total ground area of almost 300 square feet, and was designed in 2016 by the Melbourne based architectural firm Edition Office, under the leadership of Aaron Roberts and Kim Bridgland.
As it is perched atop a hill, the home boasts stunning views over its surrounding landscape. At the same time, such a position exposes it to strong local winds, which is why the external structure of the home is built out of highly texture brickwork walls. These brick walls serve to protect the three timber pavilions that make up the home. These three pavilions are joined by a courtyard common to all structures, thus creating a sense of unity between the separate structures.
The interior of the home is characterized by the use of wood – sometimes painted, sometimes raw – cladding on its different surfaces. Decorative accessories and wooden plants have served to give the home a cozier feel, as well as imbuing the interior with the personality of its residents. Glass walls allow us to enjoy the gorgeous landscape even from the comfort of the interior.
