This stunning coffee shop is part of the luxurious hotel Ibnii Coorg, which is located in Coorg (or Kodagu), an administrative district of Karnataka, India, and was designed by Bhavana Hameed of the architectural firm Playgroup Studio, which is based in Goa. The coffee shop was finished in 2016, and covers a sprawling 1,850 square feet of ground area.

As coffee is both a native crop of the Coorg district and an important export of this area, the coffee shop was designed to serve an almost sacred purpose. As such, its location within the grounds of the Ibnii was carefully chosen – it is situated near an existing pond in the valley between three hills. This pond was enlarged to five times its size in order to form a large lake, providing the perfect setting at which to enjoy a flavorful cup of coffee in peace.

The building is minimalistic in its architecture, emphasizing, by the use of clear glass walls and a sparse interior décor, a connection with its exterior surroundings. Due to its design, the stunning view over the lake that is easily enjoyed from the interior is a surprise for visitors, as it was the architectural firm’s intention that they should enter the building from the rear.
