Remodeling of an Old Building Located in Seattle, Washington, USA

By • Oct 13, 2017

This modern 3,800 square foot building, characterized by white walls, is located in the city of Seattle, Washington, USA. It was renovated by the American architectural firm SkB Architects for a couple that was looking for a space to raise their family and were attracted to this residence by the natural landscapes that surrounded it, and by its wonderful views to the lake. However, there was a problem: the house had been built in 1990 and was unusually austere and dark.

The design evokes a gallery, as the interiors highlight the residents’ art collection. The house is centered on the main living room, which extends from the front to the rear entrance. White walls contrast with ebony wooden floors. The blend of organic and inorganic materials create an atmosphere of minimalist elegance.

In the center of the house is the main public area. The living room, designed with a contemporary decor, connects to the patio and to the pool terrace. Off the living room is a small resting area.

The dining room has a long white table and, next to it, is a large abstract horse sculpture.

Next to the dining area is the kitchen, which has white and bright cabinets and a floating island wrapped in gray stone. A glass wall allows view to a small courtyard, where the family can enjoy casual meals outdoors.
