Stunning Contemporary Retreat with Rustic Look by CCS Architecture

San Francisco-based studio CCS Architecture has designed the Aptos Retreat project, a 2,800 square foot retreat residence comprising “a “living” building and a “sleep” building that overlap at their roofs to create a linkage and sheltered outdoor space.”

Completed in 2009 and designed for a family of eight, this beautiful residence is located in inland from the beach town of Aptos, California in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Developed by Dream Project LA (DPLA), the house features six beds and ten baths, a three car garage and an infinity edge pool with breathtaking mountain top views!

Offered at $14 million, the house eventually sold for $12 million.

Nakahouse by XTEN Architecture

Based in California and Switzerland, XTEN Architecture has designed Nakahouse, an extrem remodel of a 1960’s hillside single family home located high in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, just below the Hollywood sign.

The team at XTEN explained that “the existing home was built as a series of interconnected terraced spaces on the down slope property.”

Completed in 2004, the 3,600 square foot single family residence sits on an irregular hillside lot in Pacific Palisades, an affluent neighborhood and district within Los Angeles, California.

The building results of from two economically driven demands: to maximize the allowable volume permitted by the zoning code, and to minimize the amount of foundations and subsequent footprint of the house.

Tiburon Bay House by Butler Armsden Architects

The Tiburon Bay House, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, was conceived as a contemporary, innovative approach to sustainable living and was designed by San Francisco-based studio Butler Armsden Architects.

The house is slated to be one of the first LEED-H Platinum certified custom homes in Northern California.

It is located on a previously developed site where the existing 1,500 square foot residence was deconstructed by hand and 95% was resused or recycled, including 10 tons of lumbers.
