Bunker in Which You Can Stay and Feel at Home

By • Mar 8, 2018

Have you ever considered staying in a bunker? Well then this post is for you! Located in the city of Hamburg, Germany, this space promises a private and relaxed atmosphere after an arduous day of work in the city and surrounded by the luxury you can find in your own home.

The bunker in Bülowstrasse was built in 1939 when the Second World War began. The original objective was to protect the hospital for women and children on the other side of the street, but a last-minute decision made it into part of the hospital. Through a tunnel, the Bunker was connected to the hospital and, during the war, the bunker served as the perfect refuge for newborns and their mothers, in addition to offering quiet operating rooms for the sick and injured.

For many years after the war, the Bunker abandoned itself to its own destiny, which turned out to be for two young local developers, who had been looking for the perfect project for quite some time.

The renovation and reinvention of the Bunker began in 2013. Due to the nature of the building, the repair and reconstruction process was slow and meticulous.

The structure was renovated and reused, creating an interior design with a contemporary style.

Magnificent Remodeling of a Temporary Rental Apartment in Valencia, Spain

By • Mar 6, 2018

This house of 80 square meters was designed in 2017 by the architects Joaquin Juberías and Víctor Cano Ciborro in the city of Valencia, in Spain. The purpose of said property was to serve as a rental space. Due to environment required for activities linked with long summers rather than day-to-day living, this project became a property that directly deals with those issues, resulting in a space that focuses on a lively and uniquely active lifestyle. That is why they have created changing spaces that may surprise the temporary inhabitant, and that may be useful during the usually short period of their stay.

Located in a particularly old building complex, with beautiful staircases with contoured railings and vaulted ceilings of old bricks, a striking contrast was created in the modern interior, where the old red brick walls, clashing marvelously with the white used both on walls and in the furniture.

We can clearly perceive the effects produced by the reflection in the mirror or by the sensation produced by the bathroom, designed with a green-colored ceramic, with a brightness that thoroughly spreads throughout the different spaces. Apartment with Partitions is a project completed by the Sao Paulo-based architectural firm  Casa100 Arquitetura in 2016. The home itself is located in Vila Mariana, a dynamic borough of the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, located to the south of Bela Vista and Liberdade, east of Jardim Paulista and west of Ipiranga. The home covers a total ground area of 65 square meters.

The clients wished for this home to have a Scandinavian feel, and so they asked Casa100 Arquitetura to focus on creating a minimalist interior design. In order to achieve this, the color palette was kept within a limited range, and the furnishings chosen are sparse, allowing the architecture to speak for itself.

Originally, the apartment had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The resulting floor plan consists of a much larger master suite, with a spacious closet where the second bedroom was originally located. The bathroom saw the two shower cabins fused into a larger one, while the smaller bathroom was converted into a restroom. The open kitchen was given a counter, which doubles as a dining space, and which looks out onto the living room.

The interior décor is done mostly in pale shades of gray, white, and wooden surfaces. Plants and patterned surfaces, such as the rug that decorates the living room floor, serve to add touches of vibrancy to the space.

Sober and Elegant Apartment with Simple and Continuous Lines

By • Mar 1, 2018

The architectural firm LCGA Design, under the direction of its architects Circle Huang and Gina Chiu, designed this fantastic and modern apartment of 75 square meters in the city of Taipei, Taiwan in the year 2017.

Entry marked by the range of gray colors

The main concept for this project is “light”. Not only was the space needed to have sufficient natural light, but also linear lights, suspended light boxes and backlight windows in the folding door, generating different appearances in a single space. Angles were applied to many details to make the different lights visible when projected. When planning the design, the space divider was added to allow light to penetrate.

The dining room also doubles as a sort of study. The living room is not only a relaxing public space, but also a single room that is transformed by just pulling the folding door and the sofa becomes a bed. To make the space consistent, simple materials were used as an extension and rectangular tiles were applied on the floor and the walls.

As you can see the apartment reflects a great and strong personality full of elegance and exquisite good taste, in which each detail plays a key role.

A Small Apartment that Nevertheless Contains all the Necessary Amenities

By • Feb 27, 2018

This apartment covering a ground area of only 50 square meters is on the upper level of a three-storey building located in the neighborhood of Pinheiros, São Paulo, Brazil. It was designed by the architectural firm Vão, by a team made up of architects Anna Juni, Enk te Winkel, and Gustavo Delonero. The project was completed in the year 2017.

Small living room full of natural light

The main request made by the future resident was that the 50 square meters that comprised the useful area of the apartment had to be reorganized, so that the bedroom could be isolated from the other spaces. Considering this, the construction was carried out almost without any demolition, which is quite unusual for remodeling projects.

Space shared by the living room and kitchen

The extension of the existing wall allowed the creation of a volume that houses the bedroom, relocating it from the main façade, which faced the street, to the back, where the windows overlook the interior garden of the community. In addition to preserving this restful environment from the sounds of the street, the new location was also designed so that the proportions of the integrated living room (living room, kitchen, and balcony) would be balanced, as well as the natural light that flows into them.

Since the building has a collective laundry room on the ground floor, the area that was available for that purpose was replaced by a large closet.

Remodeling a Small Apartment to add Visual Amplitude

By • Feb 27, 2018

This project consists of the renovation of an apartment located on the 18th floor of a building in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which dates back to 1950 and was built by the architect Artacho Jurado. The remodeling was carried out in 2016 by the architectural firm Vão, and covers a total ground area of 56 square meters.

Lounge area with access to a small terrace

The apartment offers a privileged view of the city center from its terrace. The demolition of all the internal walls of the original plan was, therefore, an intentional action in order to allow the cityscape and natural light, framed by the original wooden frames, to flow into the space.

Living room, kitchen, and dining room sharing a space

To increase the feeling of spaciousness within the 46 square meters of internal area, the division between environments was done through a piece of furniture that hangs suspended above the green floor that covers the entire department. The volume of wood in the middle of the plan opens to both the living room and the bedroom, and has a double function: while one side is a closet for books and electronics, the other serves as storage for clothing. The functionality of the concrete countertop also helped in the organization and to gain space, because it integrates laundry utensils, kitchen, and bathroom, separated from them by a mirror suspended on the countertop.

Twentieth Century Apartment with a Modern Interior

By • Feb 26, 2018

This fabulous apartment of worn brick walls, which dates back to the Twentieth Century, and located in the heart of the beautiful Spanish city of Valencia tells a very unique story.

View of the fabulous interior of the living room with worn brick walls

It has been designed by the architectural firm Roberto Di Donato Architecture, a London-based architectural and design practice, established in 2014 operating across UK and Europe. After many years of neglect, the apartment was an empty shell when it was bought by the client, creating numerous opportunities, but also challenges for the design team.

View of the living area from the living room

The focus of the project was guided by the ambition to create modern, distinct, but fluid living spaces that almost left the existing structure intact.

Space flows constantly from one area to another, with the separation between night and day areas provided by two tall wooden elements. These custom-designed items also contain the bedroom cabinets and three sets of doors that allow varying degrees of privacy.

The height of the roof was also considered a particularly valuable element in the renovation. The structure of the roof was restored and maintained completely exposed. No element of the new design comes into contact with it, which underlines the respect for the past and also allows to perceive the full feeling of space and volume of the apartment.
